Why Have a Slot Strategy?

As with most online casino games, slots are based on probability. And as with all casino games, the house has an edge – and it’s no different with slot machines. While with physical games such as blackjack or roulette you can see the mechanics of the game at play, with slot machines it’s all housed within the programming of the reels. That means when playing slots, having some sort of slot strategy can be helpful in ensuring you possess the best chance at victory.

Following game guidelines or even just having a basic strategy can be hugely beneficial as you start spinning.

Know Your Slot

Unquestionably, one of the fundamental approaches to succeeding on any slot game is to know the specifics of the slot you are playing. The vast array of slot machines available online means that games will vary in terms of paylines, number of reels, bonus modes, the inclusion of wild and scatter symbols, and so on.

Each slot will come with some sort of basic guide telling you exactly what features it has, so take a quick look before playing to make sure you’re familiar with which approach to take.

Know the Payout

A common misconception is that if a slot has recently paid out, the chances of it happening again are slim.

Slots have no memory. All outcomes are generated by a Random Number Generator, with independent auditing and verification ensuring that all results are totally random. That means the chances of consecutive payouts are just as possible as no payout.

It’s therefore important to know the payout on each slot machine to help determine your chances of success. Every game should include a ‘Pays’ tab or payout table, which will outline what the maximum payout available is, and what the value of matching certain symbols corresponds to.

Familiarise yourself with these, so you have a good understanding of just how much you could get for a winning combination.

Know How Much to Bet

One of the beauties of slot machines is that you can choose how much you wish to bet on each spin of the reels.

While this allows you to budget and enjoy your game responsibly and safely, it does impact the level of payout you’ll receive for a successful combination.

By playing a single credit, you’ll naturally win a minimal amount, no matter how good your combination. By playing with the maximum credit, your potential payout increases.

Your approach to staking should also depend on whether you’re playing a three or five-reel slot.

On a majority of three-reel slots, it’s only possible to get a high payout percentage by betting the maximum stake, while on five-reel slots, covering all possible paylines with a minimum bet can yield the same payout percentage as betting the maximum.

However, on some slots you can only qualify for the full jackpot amount if you are betting the maximum amount possible. If that's what you're after, make sure you're fulfilling the betting requirements.

Know Your Limit

Of course, while playing slots can be a hugely fun and rewarding experience, it’s always important to know your limit. The denomination of stake amounts is a good way to manage your funds, while there are also tools available to ensure that you do not go over any pre-determined limit you may have set yourself. Never chase your losses.
